Overview

Your Flooring,
Our Skilled Hands

Plenty of homeowners find the perfect flooring themselves, through a supplier, a builder's merchant or a renovation package. What they need next is someone skilled to fit it. That's our labour-only service.

We bring the same preparation and attention to detail as on our full supply-and-fit jobs: checking the subfloor, preparing it properly, acclimatising boards and fitting with correct expansion allowances and neat thresholds.

Before we start, we'll check your flooring is suitable for the room and subfloor. If something isn't right, such as boards unsuitable for underfloor heating, we'll tell you before it's laid rather than after it fails.

Who this is for

  • Homeowners who have already bought their flooring
  • Renovations where flooring came with a wider package
  • Builders and project managers needing a specialist fitter
  • Anyone who wants skilled labour without supply mark-up
"They laid new flooring throughout our downstairs efficiently, with care, and to a brilliant standard. The guys were also a pleasure to have around the house."

Why It Matters

Great Flooring Ruined
by Poor Fitting

Expensive boards don't guarantee a good floor. The fitting decides how it looks, sounds and lasts.

Wasted materials

Poor cutting and set-out waste boards, leaving you short and hunting for a matching batch.

Movement problems

Missing expansion gaps and skipped acclimatisation lead to gaps, cupping and lifting.

Visible defects

Rough edges, poor scribing and badly finished thresholds spoil an otherwise beautiful product.

Voided warranties

Many products require specific fitting methods and subfloor conditions. Get them wrong and product warranties may not apply.

Common mistakes we see

  • Hiring a general builder for specialist timber work
  • Not checking the flooring suits the subfloor before fitting
  • Skipping acclimatisation to save time
  • Ignoring the manufacturer's fitting instructions

In Detail

What Our Labour-Only
Service Covers

Labour-only doesn't mean corners cut. Here's what's included and what to have ready.

Flooring types we fit

Solid, engineered, parquet and reclaimed timber, laid in planks or patterns such as herringbone.

Subfloor preparation

All subfloor preparation including levelling and damp proof membranes, quoted clearly so you know what's needed.

Underfloor heating

We fit over underfloor heating, provided the flooring is suitable and the system has been commissioned correctly.

Underlay and adhesives

We'll advise on the right underlay or adhesive for your product and subfloor, and can source them for you.

Finishing details

Thresholds, scribing and skirting work are included in the plan so the floor looks finished, not just laid.

Before we arrive

Have the flooring delivered in good time so it can acclimatise, and let us know the product name so we can check fitting requirements.

Working with your builder

On renovation projects we can coordinate with your builder or project manager so the floor goes down at the right stage, after wet trades and before final decoration, giving it the best chance of staying perfect.

Checking your materials

Before fitting, we inspect your flooring for faults, check batch numbers so colours match and confirm you have enough for the job. Catching a problem now means it can be raised with your supplier before anything is laid.

Fitting methods

Depending on the product and subfloor, your floor may be glued down, secret-nailed or floated over underlay. We'll follow the method that suits the product and gives the best long-term result.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the room of small items, ornaments and anything fragile.
  • Tell us at the survey about any furniture that needs moving so we can plan for it.
  • Let us know about pets, parking and access so the job runs smoothly.
  • If you're supplying materials, have them delivered in good time.
  • Plan where you'll live and walk while the room is out of use.

Looking after your floor

  • Put felt pads under chair and table legs to prevent scratches.
  • Use doormats at entrances to catch grit, the biggest cause of wear.
  • Wipe up spills promptly rather than letting them sit.
  • Clean with products suited to your floor's finish; we'll advise on the day.
  • Use rugs in the busiest routes to spread wear over time.
