Wood Floor Repairs
in Guildford, Godalming
& Surrounding Areas
Damaged boards replaced and gaps filled so the repair disappears into your floor. Done properly by timber specialists, as part of a restoration or refit.
Repairs That Blend In,
Not Stand Out
A good repair is one you can't find. Whether boards have been damaged by water, cut for pipework or worn beyond saving, replacing them so they match the surrounding floor takes skill: the right timber, the right size, the right fixing and a finish that ties it all together.
We carry out board replacement, gap filling and repairs on solid and engineered wood floors. Repairs are usually part of a larger restoration or installation, where we can sand and refinish the whole area so new and old timber read as one floor.
Please note that we don't take on small one-off jobs such as a single squeaky floorboard. We focus on work where the result really matters, and where homeowners want the right people to do the job correctly.
Who this is for
- Floors with damaged or rotten sections of board
- Boards lifted or cut for plumbing or electrics
- Parquet with loose or missing blocks
- Floors with wide gaps that need filling before restoration
"Really impressed with the professionalism and the quality of the work we received from Northfold. Super friendly, tidy, respectful of our property and importantly did a fantastic quality job."
Why Damaged Boards
Shouldn't Be Ignored
Damage in one area of a floor rarely stays in one area. Movement, moisture and wear spread to the boards around it.
Damage spreads
A split or loose board puts stress on neighbouring boards and fixings, widening the area that needs repair.
Trip hazards
Raised or uneven boards are a real risk, especially for children and older relatives.
Mismatched patches
Quick fixes with the wrong timber or colour leave obvious patches that drag down the whole room.
Hidden subfloor problems
Damage on the surface can point to a problem underneath. It is better found now than after a new floor goes down.
Common mistakes we see
- Patching with a different species or board size
- Gluing down loose boards without fixing the cause
- Repairing without refinishing, so new timber stands out
- Leaving damage until the whole floor needs replacing

Types of Wood Floor
Repair We Carry Out
Repairs are tailored to the floor in front of us. These are the most common types of work.
Board replacement
Sections of solid or engineered board can be cut out and replaced. On older floors, finding timber that matches width, thickness and colour is key, and reclaimed boards are sometimes the best match.
Parquet block repairs
Loose blocks are lifted, cleaned and re-fixed; missing or damaged blocks replaced. The whole floor is then usually sanded so the pattern reads as one.
Gap filling
Gaps can be filled using methods suited to the gap width and how much the floor moves through the seasons.
Floating floor repairs
Problems with sections of floating floors can often be put right without relaying the whole room, as one customer found when we quickly repaired a problem area mid-job.
Repairs within a restoration
Most repairs are carried out as part of a full restoration, so sanding and finishing can blend everything together.
What we don't cover
We don't take small call-out jobs like single squeaky boards. Our repairs are part of larger projects where the floor is being properly restored or refitted.
Assessing the subfloor
When boards are damaged by moisture, we look underneath to find out why. Fixing the cause, whether that's a leak, poor ventilation or a failed membrane, protects the repair and the rest of your floor.
Repairs before a new finish
If you're planning to restore your floor, repairs come first. Replacing damaged boards and re-fixing loose ones before sanding means the whole floor ends up flat, sound and evenly finished.
Before we arrive
- Clear the room of small items, ornaments and anything fragile.
- Tell us at the survey about any furniture that needs moving so we can plan for it.
- Let us know about pets, parking and access so the job runs smoothly.
- If you're supplying materials, have them delivered in good time.
- Plan where you'll live and walk while the room is out of use.
Looking after your floor
- Put felt pads under chair and table legs to prevent scratches.
- Use doormats at entrances to catch grit, the biggest cause of wear.
- Wipe up spills promptly rather than letting them sit.
- Clean with products suited to your floor's finish; we'll advise on the day.
- Use rugs in the busiest routes to spread wear over time.
